Chairman B. Master opened the meeting at 7:00 p.m. Board members present were Supervisor L. Kec Supervisor J. Stegmeir, Treasurer D. Callais, Deputy Treasurer M. Tomczak, Clerk M Manninen along with 12 guests. All attending recited the Pledge of Allegiance.
Agenda – The agenda was reviewed, Supervisor L. Kec moved to approve the agenda with the following additions: add liquor license to Public Comment and Snowmobile sign to old business, seconded by Supervisor J. Stegmeir, all voting aye the motion carried.
Minutes – The minutes for the May 3rd regular meeting were reviewed. Supervisor J. Stegmeir moved to approve the minutes, second by Supervisor L. Kec, all voting aye motion carried.

The Treasurer’s report was reviewed, the report was approved on a motion by Supervisor L. Kec, seconded by Supervisor J. Stegmeir, all voting aye motion carried.

Supervisor L. Kec moved to accept the claims and pay them in full, seconded by Supervisor J. Stegmeir, all voting aye motion carried.
Public Comment – Sandy Point Resort attended to have their liquor license approved. Al Bistodeau introduced himself as a co-owner along with his wife Sandy and Tanner & Brooke Steinlicht. Supervisor L. Kec moved to approve the license, seconded by Supervisor J. Stegmeir, all voting aye motion carried.
Old Business –
PPSSD – Supervisor J. Stegmeir reported to the board that the Pucks Point Subordinate Service District fared fairly well during this flood period. Three grinder stations needed to have plastic and sandbags put around them. With all the rain and water surrounding things the result was that the inflow into the system tripled.
Flood 2022 – Supervisor J. Stegmeir gave a brief overview of the flood operations at the Town Hall. 35,000 bags were produced during this process or an average of 3,000 bags per day. From May 21 through June3, 100,000 bags were produced by the National Guard, the sand bagging machine, and several volunteer groups from outside the community for an average of 7,700 bags per day. Total sandbags produced to date is 135,000. Approximately 114,000 are on the lake. We have 21,000 filled sandbags in reserve at the Town Hall. We have offered 6,000 to Koochiching County if transportation can be arranged. This would leave a reserve of approximately 15,000 to 20,000 filled sandbags for use by the community of needed to maintain sandbag protection going forward through the highwater period. We were helped by the MN Dept of corrections crew from Thistledew Camp in Togo for 4 days. The MN Dept. of Correction crew from Willow River for 1 day. The Littlefork school provided students for 3 days. Hibbing police coordinated volunteers from Hibbing for 1 day, 57 volunteers who produced 10,000 bags. Voyageurs National Park allowed trucks/trailers, and personnel to deliver sandbags, fill sandbags and help set sandbags on the lake. We had 5 skid steer owner operators who volunteered their time at the hall. Restaurant and Resort owners helped feed and house volunteer crews in our area. Many people were involved in feeding the crews here at the hall and donating lots of baked goods. Saint Louis County Emergency Management Division personally delivered 166,000 sandbags, over 100,000 zip ties, poly sheeting, sump pumps and other supplies that were needed. Saint Louis County Highway department delivered 189 truckloads of sand and delivered the sandbagging machine.
Community Sewer Project – SEH gave an overview of the Facility Plan and gave an outlook of the project and some timelines at a public meeting held after the Town Board meeting on June 7th.
Roads – State Point Road has flooded. Once the water recedes the road will be assessed for damages.
Community Center – The Town Hall was control center for the 2022 flood.
Other – Supervisor B. Master spoke with Saint Louis County regarding installing snowmobile crossing sign here at Kabetogama. There must be proof that the sign is worth installing. Brigette will set up a meeting with our snowmobile club and VTSI and Vic from the county to hopefully show need.
There was a discussion regarding mowing at the Town Hall. Ryan Tomczak currently mows. Chad Nevalainen has shown interest in mowing. The board has decided to leave Ryan as the mower for this season and Chad would like to take over next year.
Playground equipment was discussed. Supervisor J. Stegmeir moved to allow the township to purchase a new swing set, seconded by L. Kec, motion carried. Supervisor L. Kec will look at the old play set and determine how much trouble it would be to take it down. Sanding and staining do not seem to be an option right now.
New Business –
There was a discussion regarding the propane odor in the Town Hall. Supervisor J. Stegmeir volunteered to research this issue and hopefully come up with some kind of solution.
Supervisor L. Kec made a motion to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Supervisor J. Stegmeir, all voting aye motion carried. Meeting was adjourned at 8:01 p.m.
