Guest Speaker – Bob Degross, Voyageurs National Park Superintendent spoke on park matters. He spoke regarding the public meeting from March about the ice road. At this time there will be no changes regarding the ice road. The park would like to gather more information this winter before making any more decisions. There was a fuel spill this summer that did get out of the containment area but the MPCA is keeping an eye on things. The park personnel did do a very good job informing residents of the spill. There is a lot of work going on at the Ellsworth Rock Garden this summer. There is funding for a two year project. A new accessible trail is being built. A new dock will be built also. The cat tail mat is being removed. It will take a couple of days to mulch up the mat. The material will be raked up and piled on the shore to decay. Once this is done the barrier will be removed and the houseboat site will be reopened. They are seeking additional funding for the cattail eradication project. Statistics for camping and houseboat sites, for the full season of 2017 are House boat permits were 1597 the majority of which are on the Namakan Basin. Camping permits for last year were 3425, currently there are 2794 permits issued. The Park is willing to help with more work on the helipad. There was a change to the layout of the Park paper (The Rendezvous), Bob is looking for comments and or recommendations for this paper.
Old Business
PPSSD - Work is being done to square away the freeze issues on the sewer area. There was a lightning strike hit by Johnson’s and Park Point Resort. The air conditioner is still not working at the instrument building, the electronics were incorrect. No payment will be made until this has been completed.
Roads & Trails – The Arrowhead trail has been mowed again, Greg is to get permission from a supervisor before he does any work on this trail in the future.
Community Building/Town Hall – Lee Herseth installed the light to shine on the flag pole. There is still some sand issues with the water system and we may need to contact Kolstad/Olson to check on the well and the pump. The filter in the softener needs to be rinsed more often. There is still talk of turning the digital sign. The township will try and contact Mesabi Sign co. again but they do not want to put any more money into this project.
