Old Business:
Pucks Point SSD --- Collin Marcusen reported that Gary Cerkvenik and Mike Larsen have been working on additional funding. The Legacy Clean Water Act passed the Senate for 2 million for the Voyageurs National Park Clean Water Projects, I million could be set aside for the PPSSD project. There is still the possibility of funding from the Army Corp of Engineers. The Legacy Act funding won’t be certain until the bill passes the House on a special session. If this happens and we get the funding the monthly fee would be $100.00 or less a month. These funds if passed could be available by 2016. At this time the township board has decided to reject all bids for the PPSSD project. Chairman Nevalainen moved to reject the two bids for the PPSSD project, seconded by Supervisor Stegmeir, motion carried, all voting aye. Chairman Nevalainen gave a brief overview of the process that MPCA would need to dissolve the district. The board has asked SEH if they can have more time before paying more on the SEH bill, Collin will get back to us on that matter.
Roads & Trails --- Road Supervisor Stegmeir has made the contacts to get calcium chloride on the township roads. Phil Hart has recommend that people mark the areas that the Lady Slipper flowers are growing so they don’t get destroyed while the road work is being done, they can be transplanted with the proper authority. Neighborhood watch sign on the Burma road was taken down during this last winter season. The county installed these signs and this one needs to be replaced. Greg House will mow the arrowhead walking trail.
Community Center --- A 70’ x 7’ wide walkway will be poured at the new town hall along with steps in the front, two 8’ x 10’ slabs will be poured, and a storage building slab 16’ x 22’. There will be gravel hauled to cover up the area at the old town hall.
Hospital District --- Supervisor Stegmeir attended this meeting. We now have input at these meetings.
Elections --- Chairman Nevalainen moved to pass the polling place resolution that allows us to hold elections at the new town hall instead of the fire hall, seconded by Supervisor Stegmeir, motion carried. We need a new person to mow at the hall.
New Business
Tom Rukkavina --- Representative Rukkavina attended this meeting to take questions and listen to concerns of our area residents. He stated that our area roads are to be redone in 2017 gravel roads are to be done at the same time. The process for leaving St Louis County and going to Koochiching County is very difficult. Special legislation must be passed and representative Rukkavina said he would support us in this process and see what he could do to help. We would need a resolution and a referendum along with much support from our legislators. The issue of the Cook Hospital District on our tax statements was also discussed in further detail.
Supervisor Stegmeir moved to adjourn the meeting at 8:44, seconded by Supervisor Tomczak. Motion carried.
Respectfully Submitted,
Mary Manninen, Clerk
